July 1, 2014 by Michele Neylon Leave a Comment

Corgi have just released a new scale diecast car. It’s a 1:43 scale Ford Cortina Mk 4 1.6 L model based on the ones used by the Irish police ie. An Garda Síochána.

Apparently the cars were acquired due to Ford having a factory in Cork:

An Garda Síochána, the Republic of Ireland’s police force, used the Cortina Mk4 extensively because of its reliability and capaciousness. During the 1970s, Ireland’s government ran a ‘Buy Irish’ campaign, and because Ford had an assembly plant in Cork they purchased these locally built cars which carried a small green sticker on the rear window proclaiming them to be ‘Guaranteed Irish’.

More details on the Corgi site. It’s currently retailing for about €30 (before shipping)
